An original oil painting by Meli Axford
Oil & Acrylic on Pollycotton, 2026, 150 × 120 cm
#79 in my poolseries
The World I Want captures a suspended, sun-drenched moment where stillness and quiet connection take hold. Two figures linger at the pool’s edge - Lily, absorbed in her own thoughts, Mia poised to retrieve Polo’s ball for him from the water. Polo wanders between them, grounding the scene in familiarity and warmth.
The vivid pink sky and lush green landscape dissolve reality into something more aspirational, a place shaped by feeling rather than fact. The pool becomes both a physical and emotional space—reflective, calm, and gently holding the figures within it.
At its core, the work speaks to my ongoing exploration of love, sanctuary, and the spaces we create for those closest to us. Through colour and composition, I aim to reimagine everyday moments as something more enduring—quietly optimistic, deeply personal, and open to a sense of possibility.
